Described as “the most fun you can have in bed with your clothes on,” the Conch Republic Bed Race 2017 is readying headboards and plumping the pillows for the annual Saturday event, April 29th.
A highlight of the island’s Conch Republic Independence Celebration, the race features decorated beds on wheels propelled up our island’s Duval Street. Presented by Key West’s Bourbon St. Pub Complex and proudly supported by The SMART Ride 14, the quirky race’s entry fee is a fundraiser for the clients and mission of AIDS Help.
At 2 p.m., beds will line up on Petronia for official inspection; at 3:00 p.m. comes the parade of beds down Duval Street; and at 3:30 p.m. the race commences! Placement trophies and pother special awards will be distributed at the Bourbon St. Pub Garden Bar immediately following the race.
Be sure and look for The SMART Ride tent on Duval and register for a drawing to win a Premium R5 Ultegra 6800 lightweight road bike.…or just find out more about riding, becoming a crew member volunteering. For more information about The SMART Ride, go to http://www.TheSMARTRide.org

The 10-day Conch Republic Independence Celebration commemorates the Florida Keys’ symbolic 1982 “secession” from the United States, following the installation of a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint at the head of the island chain.
